Seneca United Roster (Fall 2011)
Seneca United is coached by several young, enthusiastic, and dedicated coaches. We work to improve a wide variety of aspects in a players’ game including technique and first touch as well as a multitude of mental attributes such as decision making, anticipation, composure, positioning, and creativity. We stress retaining possession and encourage free flowing attacking play, as well as high pressure, disciplined defending. Our home games are played at the Germantown SoccerPlex, where the high quality, wide fields allow us to execute our tactics of keeping possession and attacking down the wings. By having several coaches attend games and practices, we can give our players the personal attention necessary to improve their skill and playing ability, while keeping the atmosphere fun and competitive. All our players genuinely enjoy going to practices and many have formed long lasting friendships with their team members. Hopefully, our approach will translate into the players loving soccer as much as we do.
We believe hard work off the field and effort on the field leads to results, and we try to instill that in our players. As a result, we hold two 2-hour practices plus a 2 hour conditioning session every week. During the regular season, the conditioning session is replaced with a light Saturday practice session focused on tactical preparation and finishing. When weather calls for thunderstorms, rather than cancel practice, we hold match viewings to analyze our games (recorded in high quality and available on YouTube). We believe soccer is equally a mental sport as it is physical, and watching/analyzing ourselves play is extremely beneficial. Furthermore, we expect our players to go out a minimum of 10 times a month on their own to either juggle, run, or use a wall/partner to improve ball control. Players who complete the challenge successfully are eligible to play in our monthly Player/Coaches tournament, and we typically see 10-12 kids playing each month.
